As expected, the new master cylinder arrived today and I have just finished a quick test fit to make sure everything lined up. 100% success! Sadly, when I came out this morning, the shock absorber had leaked a bunch of the fluid so it looks like that part will need to be replaced.

The DICO Model 6 master cylinder (part #10271). After a bunch of hunting around, I found a site with measurements and the site even said this part fits older Atwood brake systems.Everything lines up great. The only difference is where the brake line connects. On the original master cylinder, it connected on the angled spot on the right in this picture. The new one is on the front.Overhead view, as you can see the mounting bolts are temporarily installed to make sure everything lines up.

Unfortunately I’ve started to catch a cold, just in time to start Autumn, so I won’t be doing much on the brakes tonight, but the successful test fit has me feeling pretty good. I’ve also just emailed Wes at WKS Tent Trailer Rebuilders about some used parts he has.

The next step will be to deal with the drum brakes. By the looks of things, I’ll be replacing the whole assembly as the cost isn’t much more than buying individual parts. Along with that, I’ll need to run new brake lines, including the rubber hose to the axle.

7" x 1 3/4" drum brakes. I have a feeling this whole assembly will be getting replaced due to the small difference in cost

I think, if I’m feeling better tomorrow night, I’ll try to get one of the brake assemblies off of the axle flange for a closer inspection. I’ve only got evenings and some time during the weekends to work on the trailer so small steps and lots of pictures and documentation are helping, and I’m sure they’ll be even more useful when it’s time for reassembly.
